Black Sea

Airplane Il-2. Balaklava.

WWII Soviet ground attack airplane Il-2 was found at Tarkhankut Cape and delivered to the Museum of Underwater Archeology in Balaklava. The sunken objects of this kind are rarities for the Black Sea. Thus, a visit to this museum is something special and unique. This aircraft was armed with 2-7.62 mm ShKAS machine-gun and 2-23-mm aircraft cannons, which have preserved well in its remaining left wing. You’ll also explore a large engine that was burning, most probably, at the time of the catastrophe, as well as a bent propeller blade, a fore part of the airplane and sealed shot holes in the body. It was literally a real “combat craft” which, being controlled by its pilot, accomplished a great deal of feats of arms.
